In the same way that those that travel aren’t guaranteed to ‘find themselves’, meeting your soul-mate doesn’t necessarily complete you and the whole ridic about New Years Eve being the most spectacular, amazing night of the year is nothing more than a promoters stunt guaranteed to leave you reeling when you loose a contact, break a heel and fight with your best friend. Hate me yet? We all know it happens!
Pessimism aside, we’ve weeded though all the spectacular acts happening in Sydney – Sorry Melbourne – and narrowed it down to give you our top 5. Covering all budgets to be fair, from the thrifty and the fun to the one’s that throttle yourself towards promises to work overtime thus getting that pay-rise so you can cover the cost. Envious is an understatement but I’m still happy to be going to at least one of the events on this list.

1. Toko & The Island
Miss the Cleo Swimsuit Party? Where bathing beauties flocked before you here’s your chance to board one really big boat complete with an incredible bar, 5-star service and as part of their New Year’s Eve festivities, The Island has paired up with Toko Surry Hills to offer what I’m sure will be an amazing degustation. Vantage point number 1.
Location: Drifting in the Harbour
2. 11.12 New Years Eve
From the guys at You Only Live Once namely Maurice Terzini (Icebergs), Dan Single (Ksubi) and Angus McDonald (Sneaky Sound System), could there honestly be a better trio equipped to pull off Sydney’s best New Year’s Eve party? No. Can’t make the party, their website is a fave of mine and well worth checking out http://youonlyliveonce.com.au
Location: Sydney Opera House
3. Lawn With A View
There are gardens and there are gardens and if your going to spend NYE in one, save those that have their own Versailles in the backyard; Sydney’s Botanical Gardens are among the most spectacular. Aside from un-interupted views of the fireworks, included in the ticket price are a gourmet hamper with bevis available from the on-site bar.
Location: Royal Botanic Garden
4. New Year’s Eve at Ms G’s
Amazing cocktails, an eclectic space and fantastic staff are what make Ms G’s a winner in Daily Gloss’s pick of New Year’s Eve events. With a plethora of transport options and post dinner drinking cubby’s nearby, consider $85 pp a steal. As an added bonus, walk to the top of “The McElhone Stairs” down the end of Victoria Street for a view of the fireworks.
Location: 155 Victoria Street, Potts Point
5. Dinner with Friends
Location: It’s not where you are but who your with.
